The Story:

There's one main reason I own a Fender Jazz Bass, and that's Geddy Lee. Rush has been one of my favorite bands for 40 years now, and Geddy's playing often made me wish I'd fallen in love with the bass before I ever picked up the guitar.

When I decided to finally start playing bass a few years ago, the two iconic basses that came to mind were the Fender Precision and the Fender Jazz Bass. I really didn't know much about the differences at the time, but the P-Bass was more familiar looking, and when I started playing and listening to them, I liked the deep, mellow tones of the Precision more than the punchier voice of the J-Bass.

However, I grew to appreciate the tonal characteristics of the Jazz Bass as an alternative to to the Precision—sort of how I'd grow to love the Telecaster as a compliment to the Stratocaster I favored for electric guitar. I also loved the faster feel of the Jazz Bass's slimmer neck. And, oh yeah—Geddy Lee plays a Jazz Bass.

As I started exploring more bass players and paying more attention to the equipment they used, I discovered that John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) was also a Jazz Bass player. And of course, there was Jaco. The more I listened to and played both basses, the question was no longer which one of the two to own—instead, I started to wonder if it's possible to own too many guitars in the same color!

In the summer of 2023, I decided to sell off some of my other guitars and buy a quartet of classic Fender instruments—a Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass—all in Candy Apple Red.
